  Acoustic Performance
The acoustic performance of office screens is very difficult to quantify as the environment in which they are used can have an influence on the effectiveness of any screen. Brick walls, hard floors, high ceilings, suspended ceilings with a void above and the shape of the room all have an effect on the way noise travels around a room.

Therefore the following points are worth considering when specifying office screens:
  1. Solid office screens are not as effective at absorbing noise and tend to bounce the sound around the room.

2. A hollow construction with a sandwich of different materials is an effective way of absorbing noise by taking energy out of the sound wave as it changes frequency traveling through each different material. Glendale Products Ltd manufacture screens using this process. The use of a soft skin to make a pinnable surface lessens the sound absorbency of the screen

3. Glendale Products offer a range of additional surface treatments to enhance the sound absorbing properties. We do not offer figures for the reduction in decibels or the overall absorption co-efficient of the screen composition because this does not translate into the installation. The following surface materials will enhance the performance, the materials absorption co-efficient is quoted to give an indication magnitude of sound absorption.

In addition to office screens with additional acoustic treatments, we also offer a range of acoustic wall panels. These are most effective in reducing noise in areas that are particularly prone to echoing. Reverberant noise is typically a problem in corridors, sports halls gymnasiums and school halls. The solid floors and walls with high ceilings and limited furnishings allow for a high movement of sound. Please see our acoustic wall panels page for further details.
